    1. Backup your important data such as SMS, Call Log, Contacts, APN and MMS settings. You can follow our Android backup guide for this. Also, it’s good idea to backup your internal memory content to external SD card, specially when during following instruction you have to perform some type of wiping task.
    2. If your device turn off during the installation process unless explicitly mentioned on this tutorial then it may experience a hard brick. That’s why always check battery percentage before following this tutorial. Usually, the tablet should have 60% or more power when you flash a custom ROM or firmware and it will be fine on 30% or more if you going to root it.     3. You should make sure, you have installed proper USB driver for Motorola Droid Eris. Visit our USB Driver Download page. If you can access your mobile content in your PC when both are connected the your already have it.

    5. Another thing you should note that nearly all our tutorial is for carrier unlocked and bootloader unlocked devices. You shouldn’t try to install it on a locked device unless explicitly mentioned.

If you already have any ROM installation experience then this procedure shouldn’t bother you much. Basically you required to download ROM zip and Google Apps zip first. Then follow our below mentioned guide as it is.
We now have few quick instruction for you before you jump into the tutorial. You should remember the following:
  • This ROM only tested on HTC Droid Eris. You shouldn’t flash it in any other Android device.
  • The ROM installation process may not require root but root is needed to enjoy various functionality of this custom ROM.
  • You require a custom recovery such as TWRP or CWM recovery to install this custom ROM. We used CWM recovery in our instruction.
  • You should always perform a Nandroid backup before flashing any ROM. You can restore everything if this ROM doesn’t satisfy you.
  • After flashing this ROM your device may stuck on Boot or may face a boot loop. In such cases perform perform wipe cache partition and wipe dalvik cache 4-5 more times before rebooting.
  • It’s always a better idea to give installed ROM 5-10 min after it boot first time to settle everything for you for a better using experience.
  • If you faced a Status 7 error then its mean either you flash it on wrong device or you required to install a related kernel (if it’s a Gingerbread ROM then you may required to install a Gingerbread kernel first) before installing the ROM.

Installation Instruction of Android 2.3.7 Gingerbread Based CM7 ROM on HTC Droid Eris

Step 1: First of all download CM7 ROM for HTC Droid Eris [Filename: cm-7-20130301-NIGHTLY-desirec.zip] and Google Apps [Filename: gapps-gb-20110828-signed.zip]
Step 2: Now, connect your HTC Droid Eris to PC using USB cable and then mount your storage first.
Step 3: Once you manage access f your phone SD card content from your computer, copy downloaded zip files to the SD card of your phone. Important: Don’t extract any file.
Step 4: Once you finish file transfer procedure, disconnect USB and then turn off your phone.
Step 5: Boot into recovery mode. To do so, press and hold Volume Down and Power button together to boot into HBOOT menu, from there select Recovery. [in recovery use volume buttons to scroll and Power button to select]. You can also try this: Recovery Mode without Key Combination.
Step 6: As we mentioned earlier, it’s important to perform a Nandroid backup of your existing ROM that you can restore later if this new ROM not work or you want to go back. To perform a Nandroid backup, select Backup and Restore, then on the next screen, select Backup again. Go back to main recovery menu after backup process done.
Step 7: It’s time to perform some wiping task to eliminate clash between new ROM and previous ROM. To do so, first select wipe data/factory reset, then select Yes on next screen to confirm your action. Wait few minutes till the data wiping process done. Now come back to CWM recovery main menu. Select wipe cache partition and after wiping cache partition process completed, select Wipe Dalvik Cache under advance option to perform Dalvik cache wiping. When all done, it’s safe to move into next step.
Step 8: Select install zip from sdcard, then select choose zip from sdcard. Now, locate the cm-7-20130301-NIGHTLY-desirec.zip file that you copied earlier in Step 3 and select it by pressing Powerbutton. Confirm installation on next screen and soon the ROM installation procedure start.
Step 9: Once the ROM installation process end, repeat the step 8 but choose gapps-gb-20110828-signed.zip instead of ROM zip to install the Google apps package.
Step 10: When all done, you should go back to the main recovery menu and select reboot system nowto reboot the smartphone. The phone will then boot into this new ROM, however you should note the first boot usually take time usually about 5 minutes.
Returning to Previous ROM: To go back to your previous ROM, boot into recovery, select backup and restore then restore your previous ROM by selecting it from the list.
